چکیده

Web content hosting, in which a Web server stores and provides Web access to documents for different customers, is becoming increasingly common. For example, a web server can host webpages for several different companies and individuals. Traditionally, Web Service Providers (WSPs) provide all customers with the same level of performance (best-effort service). Most service differentiation has been in the pricing structure (individual vs. business rates) or the connectivity type (dial-up access vs. leased line, etc.). This report presents Dzjj?i’eerVer, a program that implements two simple, server-side, application-level mechanisms (server-centric and client-centric) to provide different levels of web service. The results of the experiments show that there is not much overhead due to the addition of this additional layer of abstraction between the client and the Apache web server under light load conditions. Also, the average waiting time for high priority requests decreases significantly after they are assigned priorities as compared to a FIFO approach.

A Dynamic Priority Allocation Scheme of Messages for Differentiated Web Services Satisfying Service Level Agreement

Recently many enterprises are adopting web services as the standard between heterogeneous software in the XML message based distributed environment to carry out businesses from B2C to B2B. For effective application of web services, differentiated service quality must be guaranteed. However, majority of the current web services do not differentiate quality of messages and the current web servers...

Using Adaptive Priority Controls for Service Differentiation in QoS-Enabled Web Servers

We propose an architecture for the provision of differentiated services at the web server level. The architecture is validated by means of a simulation model and real web server traces are used as workload. We implement an adaptive algorithm which allows the tuning of the priority level provided and determines how strict the use of priorities will be. The server can then adapt itself to various...

An Admission Control Scheme for Proportional Differentiated Services Enabled Internet Servers Using Support Vector Regression

Unpredictable response time is a common problem in contemporary web servers. Long response delays substantially cut company revenues owing to the large number of aborted e-commerce transactions. This work presents an admission control model and a traffic scheduler scheme of the web server under a proportional differentiated service, embedding a time series predictor to estimate the traffic load...

Kernel Mechanisms for Service Differentiation in Overloaded Web Servers

The increasing number of Internet users and innovative new services such as e-commerce are placing new demands on Web servers. It is becoming essential for Web servers to provide performance isolation, have fast recovery times, and provide continuous service during overload at least to preferred customers. In this paper, we present the design and implementation of a kernel-based architecture th...
